  76. The Guardian is a security system which protects any disk against
  77. unauthorized by making all files seem to disappear.  It does not encrypt
  78. individual files but instead modifies to disk's table of contents so the
  79. computer doesn't know where any file are on the disk, and, in fact,
  80. doesn't even know they exist.  The Guardian works equally well with
  81. diskettes or hard disks of any size.

  83. It's just like clamping a padlock on your disk.  Once it's "locked", no
  84. one can look at or use your data, but when you give The Guardian your
  85. private password, it restores your disk to completely normal status in a
  86. flash.

  91. More Detail about The Guardian:

  93. The system consists of two programs one of which is a sign-on program
  94. which would normally be the very first entry in an AUTOEXEC.BAT file. If
  95. the proper authorization is not entered, the disk is automatically
  96. locked and an alarm is sounded.
  97.  
  98. The other program is a system support program that provides the ability
  99. to intentionally lock or unlock any selected disk.  To unlock a disk,
  100. you must know either the master password that was in effect when the disk
  101. was originally locked or the password that was used to lock it.  This
  102. program also provides the facility for customizing colors,  and for
  103. setting installation parameters such as passwords.  The system allows up
  104. to six different passwaords.  Each of the programs contains an
  105. anit-virus guard.

  107. There is a Version 2 of The Guardian which is not available as shareware.
  108. It must be purchased directly from Marcor Enterprises.   It is a major
  109. upgrade and offers many more features, including a windows style
  110. interface, mouse support, the ability to lock/unlock multiple drives in
  111. one operation, customize screen messages, the ability to lock only a
  112. portion of a disk (i.e. leave any combination of files and/or
  113. directories  unlocked), and many new controllable options. Included in
  114. this package is a program called TGM20.EXE which is a demonstration
  115. edition of Version 2.  Version 2 also includes a stand alone encryption
  116. program for encrypting individual or groups of files.

  153.                     Hard Disk Installation Procedure

  155. First things first:

  157. Run the README.BAT file for information on "Getting Started".
  158.  
  159. 1. Place The Guardian distribution diskette in Drive A:
  160.  
  161. 2. Set the prompt to A:
  162.  
  163. 3. Type in INSTALL and press <Enter>
  164.  
  165. 4. The procedure will install The Guardian on your hard disk.
  166.    You will be given an opportunity to specify your own drive
  167.    and/or directory as well as the opportunity to cancel the
  168.    installation.

  170. 5. If you want to install The Guardian from another drive such
  171.    as B:, you can enter the DOS command ASSIGN A=B before you
  172.    start.  Then all references in the installation procedure
  173.    to A: will act on drive B:.  When you're done, enter ASSIGN
  174.    to reset the assignment to normal.

  176. 6. Alternative for CD-ROM's etc.  Create your own directory and copy the
  177.    Guardian files to it.  Then simply run GUARDIAN.EXE which is a
  178.    self-extracting compressed file containing programs and additional
  179.    documentation.  After extracting, GUARDIAN.EXE can be deleted.
